Northants & Rutland Teacher Network
Modelling In StatisticsOverview
At A level students are required to translate situations in context into models and then apply the model. They need to recognise the limitations of the model and how to refine it. We will explore what this means in the context of statistics and how best to prepare students to respond to modelling questions.
Content
We will discuss how students are expected to apply the statistical content that they have learnt (such as the standard distributions, hypothesis testing and correlation & regression) to modelling questions. We will look at a range of modelling questions and analyse how students can best be prepared for those types of question and what activities help promote an understanding of the modelling process.
Materials and Equipment
Please bring the enhanced scientific or graphical calculator that you use with students.
A laptop or tablet to access DESMOS would also be useful
