Edgbarrow School Teacher Network

Large Data Set 2020

Edgbarrow Teacher Network is an AMSP-funded project, allowing teachers of Mathematics in the Crowthorne, Bracknell and Wokingham area of Berkshire to meet, collaborate and to share best practice. We meet termly and the programme is planned by teacher request and will include informal sessions and training events.

  • Working with the Large Data Set (LDS) using Excel and Desmos
  • Independent activities for students
  • Using the LDS across the A level

This session will focus on the Large Data Set(s) (LDS) to be used in the 2020 A level examinations. We will explore AMSP resources that are available to help students become familiar with the data set(s), including the use of Desmos for drawing statistical diagrams. We will also consider how the LDS can be used to help teach statistical literacy across the A level.

Materials and Equipment

Laptops will be provided, but you are welcome to bring your own. If you are bringing your own, please download a copy of the LDS for your exam board ready for the meeting. Links to the data sets can be found here: https://mei.org.uk/large-data-sets
