Year 10 University Mathematics Taster Day

Plymouth University, in conjunction with the AMSP, are holding a Mathematics taster day which will consist of a number of hands-on interactive workshops on a variety of mathematical topics.
Aims
- To inspire students to continue with maths post-16
- To show students the range of opportunities available by studying maths
- To foster a positive attitude to solving problems in mathematics
- To develop teamwork
Who will benefit from attending?
The day aims to provide your Year 10 students with a taste of mathematics at University with the hope that it will encourage them to consider mathematics post 16 or hopefully post 18. It is designed for those students in your top sets, who should be considering Mathematics as an option for Post-16 study. The workshops are designed to be challenging as well as enjoyable.
Content
Students will participate in several workshops, for example, Medical Statistics, Cryptography, Geometry, Dimensional Analysis and computer programming.
Materials and Equipment
It is expected that students will have the usual school mathematics equipment, including scientific calculators.
Other Information
The students will be allocated to the different workshops, we aim to have workshop sizes between 20 and 25 to enable a hands on interactive experience.
