Overview

Rob Cackett from Edexcel will present a Review of the A level Maths and Further Maths papers from 2019 in the morning, then Bernard Murphy will lead PD on Ideas for developing problem solving skills in the A level classroom. 

Aims

  • To review last summer's exams
  • To develop approaches to teaching mathematical modelling.
  • To develop approaches to teaching students to interpret, reason and explain.
  • To develop approaches to teaching students problem solving.

9.30am      Rob Cackett (with a break during or after his presentation)

11.30am    A problem to solve

12 noon      Lunch

12.45pm     A lesson on a pure topic from AS with a focus on problem solving

13.45pm     Reflect on the lesson.  What worked, any opportunities missed?

14.00pm     Break

14.25pm     Six ideas for developing problem solving skills in the A level classroom

15.30pm     Evaluation
