  • To increase progression from KS4 to level 3 maths;
  • to foster a positive attitude

Who will benefit from attending?

Year 8 students who are aiming to continue to Higher GCSE

Content

Students will attend three out of four workshop sessions on interesting Maths and problem solving and take part in a lunchtime quiz. The afternoon session is a talk on an intriguing Maths topic.

Programme:

9:00 – 9:30  arrival

9:30- 9:45   welcome

9:45 – 10:35  workshop 1

10:45- 11:35  workshop 2

11:45- 12:35  workshop 3

12:45 – 1:30   lunch

1:30 -  2:30   final talk

2:30-2:40 evaluations and finish

A picture paints a thousand numbers

Magic Maths

Puzzles and sequences

Reasoning,proof and problem solving: why it's important

Final Session:

Making Assumptions

In life and in maths we often rely on making assumptions about situations, events and people.  This talk will take us on a tour of some assumptions we may not even realise we have.  It will include the presenter's own experiences of circles, construction, crochet and sewers!
