An Introduction to Topics in Year 2 Further Pure Mathematics

Overview

A one day course for teachers to focus on extending their subject knowledge beyond AS level (or year 1) further mathematics to teach A level (or year 2) further mathematics.

Aims

  • Develop deeper mathematics subject knowledge; explore links within the topics and with other areas of mathematics
  • To strengthen teachers understanding of some of the common pure mathematics topics in A level further mathematics; highlighting the links between the topics
  • To experience interesting and stimulating ways of introducing topics in the classroom, including the use of dynamic software

Who will benefit from attending?

This course is suitable for teachers who have little or no experience of teaching further pure topics beyond year 1 / AS level. Teaching and learning resources will be explored so this course is also useful for teachers who have taught the content of the module but may be looking for fresh ideas for use in the classroom. The topics covered on this course feature in the compulsory content of the reformed further mathematics A level.

• Inverse hyperbolic functions
• Differentiation and Integration including use of Inverse Trigonometric Functions
