Problem Solving at Higher LevelWolverhampton
Problem solving is important for many reasons
- encourages thinking, flexibility and creativity
- develops cooperative skill
- promotes greater understanding
- develops connections between topic areas
to name but a few.
In this course we develop problem solving skill at a higher level within the context of the overacrching themes of the new A level Mathematics.
We will consider different problem solving methods and use a wide range of resources to develop skills but which will also engage and enrich students learning whle studying A level Mathematics and Further Mathematics.
The course will be delivered by Christine Watson and Liz Price.
Christine is an AMSP Area Coordinator and a Senior Lecturer at the University of Worcester. She has taught mathematics across the West Midlands and was Secondary Mathematics Advisor for Worcestershire. She has worked with a number of national bodies including the FMSP, NCETM and IMA. She leads professional developments nationally and is an NCETM PD Accredited Lead. She is currently involved in both Initial Teacher Education and the University of Worcester’s School Improvement offer.
Liz Price is a former senior lecturer at the University of Wolverhampton before she became involved with the Further Mathematics Support Programme, now the Advanced Mathematics Support Programme. She has been working for these projects, trying to improve the provision of Mathematics and student opportunities in the West Midlands, for more years than she cares to remember.
