Unexpected Maths: Applications of Mathematics to Intrigue and Inform

Overview

The day is aimed at Y8 students and will extend students’ experiences up to and beyond GCSE Mathematics. We aim to inspire students to continue to study Mathematics at a higher level.  

Aims

  • Improve teamwork and communication skills
  • Improve problem-solving skills using recreational maths

Who will benefit from attending?

Open to Year 8 students who want to improve their mathematical and teamwork skills.

Content

All students will be able to attend 3 out of a possible 5 sessions (the students will be allocated to these sessions). The five sessions will be a mixture of topics. All students will be included in the final session, ‘Mathematical Magic’ by Zoe Griffiths.
