Hackney Teacher Network

Sharing Resources & Hypothesis Testing

The Hackney Teacher Network is an AMSP and Hackney Learning Trust funded project, allowing teachers of A level Mathematics to meet, collaborate and to share best practice. We meet termly and the programme usually includes sharing best practice and another item. The location of the network changes between meetings.

Heartfelt apologies if the day doesn't suit you.  It is now impossible to find days that suit everyone, but do let me know what days of the week are best and I will continue to do my best to suit as many schools as is possible for future meetings.

  • Sharing ideas and resources
  • Teaching Hypothesis testing
  • Moderated end of year exam

We will have the usual exchange of our best ideas so please bring along the best activity you have used this term to share. Bring along enough copies for about 20 teachers and be prepared for just a few minutes to give us a flavour of the activity. If you can make us all work at it ourselves - so much the better! Please send me an electronic version so that I can pop it in the dropbox for everyone to share. You provide one activity and walk away with 15 or 20. What's not to like!

We will also be looking at strategies to teach Hypothesis testing. This is new to the syllabus for many teachers as it only appeared in S2 in the old specs. I will bring along some ideas for teaching it and some activities for your students but please bring along things that you use in your own teaching of this topic. ALL ideas would be most welcome so have a think about strategies that you use that you feel can help and can share.

We are exploring the idea (thank you Lynda) of offering an end of year exam for Year 12 that could take the place of the AS. We plan to provide the paper and mark scheme along with moderation of a sample of your students' papers which will give you a better idea of how they are doing against other schools.  More on this at the meeting!

Let Francis know whether you can come (or not); [email protected] who will then provide location details.
