STEP preparation - weekly sessions
This course consists of 15 sessions and is aimed at Year 13 students who are preparing for the STEP exam. It would also be suitable for dedicated Year 12 students who anticipate sitting either STEP or similar papers such as MAT/AEA/TMUA next year or who simply relish a serious mathematical challenge, so long as they can cope with the difficulty of the questions.
We will concentrate on the techniques which are beyond the A level specification. They will be invaluable for examination preparation and will help students bridge the gap between school and university mathematics.
In these sessions you will get to work on STEP questions alongside students with similar aspirations and be given support and advice regarding all matters related to STEP and similar papers.
We will use the “Road Map” format of question with a carefully broken-down set of hints and solutions to allow you as much or as little help as you need as you progress.
Later in the course you will get to present your solutions to other students and attempt questions in a “Mock Exam” format.
The course consists of 15 weekly sessions and classes will take place at Teesside University on Wednesdays from 4:30pm to 6pm, starting on the 23 January 2019.
- To develop students' problem-solving skills
- To provide opportunities for students to work with students from other schools

Who will benefit from attending?
The sessions are mostly appropriate to Year 13 students, but Year 12 students are welcome to attend if they feel they can cope with the challenge.
