One-day Mechanics CPD Day

Derby

Overview

A one-day event for teachers to develop their own subject knowledge and classroom practice.

This professional development is suitable for any teachers wishing to develop their own subject knowledge and classroom practice in teaching mechanics for the new A level maths specification. We will focus on the compulsory content of the Year 2 mechanics components of the qualification.

The course will suit teachers who have taught the M1 modules on the legacy A levels, and who want to upskill to mechanics in the new A levels. Delegates will be shown some practical demonstrations of mechanics principles, and there will be a lot of discussion of modelling. Delegates will be encouraged to try a range of questions themselves.

Aims

  • gain a deep understanding of the principles of mechanics
  • develop skills with mathematical modelling and problem solving
  • develop confidence with incorporating practical work within mathematics teaching
  • improve subject knowledge and build on pedagogical skills
  • link topics in mechanics with other areas of mathematics
