Year 10 students are invited to attend Manchester Mathamagic, an event that hopes to inspire students to take post-16 maths including Maths, Further Maths and Statistics A Levels and Core Maths. There will be a choice of workshops where we will aim to capture the imagination of attendees and encourage them to take Level 3 Mathematics qualifications.
There will be a presentation by Katie Steckles, a renowned maths communicator, and a unique Dragon Maths Competition across mixed school groups.
Who will benefit from attending?
This event is aimed at year 10 students who you hope will choose post-16 options in maths.
We would particularly like to target students who may lack confidence in mathematics and are wary of considering mathematics as a post-16 choice – we believe we may be able to change their minds! Please also do everything you can to promote this event to female students. Please note that students should bring their own packed lunch to this event; lunch will be provided for teachers.
10.00 – 13:00 Three Workshop (a list of options to be sent out before the day)
13:30 – 14:30 Presentation by Colin Wright (“the maths juggler”)
14:30 – 15.30 Competition
Places are limited to ten students per school or college. Please note that students should bring their own packed lunch to this event; lunch will be provided for teachers. There are vending machines available in the common areas that we will be using.
