Developing Students' Problem-Solving Skills in KS5 Mathematics

Overview

Martin Bamber (AC AMSP) and Abigail Bown (AC AMSP) will lead a professional development day on problem solving in the new A Level Mathematics.

This will be followed up by a half day problem-solving session for teachers accompanied by a group of their students to put the ideas into practise

Aims

  • To consider approaches to problem-solving in A-Level Mathematics and beyond
  • To assist teachers in incorporating more problem-solving activities in their teaching
  • To allow teachers time to work on problem solving activities and to discuss strategies
  • To assist teachers to research the outcomes of problem-solving activities with students, both in-house and via a special teacher-student problem-solving afternoon at the University
  • To find out more about University entrance exams involving mathematics

Who will benefit from attending?

This course is suitable for any teachers of A Level Mathematics or Further Mathematics

Cost

The course fee is £50. If you are working in a state-funded school or college, participation in this course attracts a reimbursement of course fees and an additional bursary of £150, subject to engagement and completion of the course.Schools and colleges located within Priority Areas are eligible to receive a further bursary of £50 to support staff cover and travel costs
