New to Year 12 Problem Solving Conference
NorwichOverview
This conference will be of interest to year 12 A level maths students who are looking to explore mathematical problem-solving more deeply. Attending this day will not only help students with their Mathematics / Further Mathematics A-level, but will help to prepare them if they are thinking of going on and studying mathematics or a mathematics related degree at university or a future STEM career. It will include some examples from and information about admission tests which have some mathematical content. Teachers are welcome to attend with their students and will have the opportunity to work alongside them on problems.
Basic refreshments will be provided for everyone during breaks in the programme, but students should bring their own packed lunch with them (which should not include any products containing peanuts). There will be a buffet lunch available for teachers.
Who will benefit from attending?
This is a day for year 12 A level maths students who have an interest in developing their higher level problem solving skills, and enjoy working on and solving problems. It is also for teachers of A level maths who wish to help to improve the problem solving skills of their students.
The day will suit students who are interested in developing their problem solving skills.
Content
The conference consists of several workshops, some of which will give students the opportunity to solve a variety of mathematical problems. Other workshops include how to get started, how to set out solutions and how to work in a group to solve a problem.
As well as general mathematical problems, the workshops will include examples from mathematics admissions tests as well those for other subjects such as BMAT and NSAA.
There will be an enrichment talk to close the day.
