Live online Year 9 Competition

Online - zoom

Overview

AMSP Yorkshire and the Humber are hosting an Online Maths Competition for Year 9 students across the region.

Students will work in teams of 2, or 3 on a series of accessible mathematical challenges before submitting their answers online. Each team will need a computer, tablet or phone.

This event will consist of a series of questions presented through DESMOS*, as well as some LIVE question rounds streamed into the classroom.  Answers will be checked and feedback given after each question. This is a fantastic opportunity for your students to enjoy completing some mathematical challanges as well as competing against their colleagues in school and other teams from schools across the region.

(* Students will not be logging into Desmos and so there will be no GDPR concerns)

Who will benefit from attending?

This event is aimed at Year 9 students.

The event is designed so that you can run it with an entire class, split into teams of 2 or 3 students. Each team needs a computer, tablet or phone in order to access the questions and submit their answers online.

You will need to supervise the class, but we are not asking you to mark answers or submit marks.  You will need to set up the Zoom webinar link beforehand and ensure that the devices being used by your students are connected to WiFi or your school's network.  The webinar will need to be projected to the whole class - students will not have direct access to this.

Materials and Equipment

The session will be streamed into the classroom, you will need access to suitable equipment so that both video and audio aspects of the session are accessible to you and your students. It is advised that the content of the session is displayed via an interactive whiteboard or a similar classroom technology so that students can see and hear what is presented clearly.

To enable you or your students to ask questions during the sessions, there will be a chat facility which you can type into.

Each team in the class needs to have access to a computer, tablet or phone to access the questions, submit answers and progress through the session.

Each team will also need pens and some paper.

Calculators are not allowed.
