Overview

A free and engaging one-day professional development conference designed for teachers either offering, or thinking about offering, Core Maths. The day will focus on approaches for planning, teaching and learning Core Maths.

Delegates will get ample opportunity to gather resources and ideas and share experiences with teachers from other schools and colleges.

Aims

• Develop pedagogical approaches for teaching Core Maths effectively.
• Explore Core Maths activity in terms of being appropriate for all.
• Network and share ideas with fellow teachers of Core Maths.

Who will benefit from attending?

These conferences are suitable for any teacher who is currently teaching Core Maths or who expects to do so in the near future. The content will be relevant to all of the Core Maths specifications.

Following on from our previous conferences on estimation, critical analysis, and data, this year we are turning our attention to equity centred teaching. The Core Maths classroom often contains students with a wide range of prior achievements, potentially from a grade 4 on Foundation GCSE all the way up to a grade 9. Beyond academic levels, students also bring a variety of unique needs, many of which only become apparent once you start working with them. How can you ensure that your classroom and activities support every student as well as they can, fostering an environment where everyone can thrive?

At this conference we will be exploring:  

• The principles of equity centred teaching  

• How to develop engaging tasks that integrate these principles 

• How to empower students to communicate their problem-solving processes clearly and effectively

Eligibility

This course is free for delegates from English state-funded schools, colleges and academies. Teachers from independent schools and non-English schools may apply, but places will only be granted if there is availability.
